Apprenticeship: AI Interface for Persons Who Are Blind or Partially Sighted
Design Inclusive Technology That Makes a Meaningful Impact
Location:
Calgary, Alberta (Remote/Hybrid)
Duration:
6 weeks
Type:
Apprenticeship/Internship
Project Overview
At IAXOV, we're committed to developing technology that serves all users, regardless of ability. We're seeking passionate apprentices to join our mission to develop a groundbreaking AI interface designed specifically for individuals who are blind or partially sighted.
Current technological solutions often repurpose standard sighted-focused interfaces, which fail to address the unique challenges faced by this community. Our project seeks to approach this issue from a first-principles approach, leveraging IAXOV's "perfect conversation" technology to create an interface that is intuitive, accessible, and truly inclusive.
This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of millions globally and tens of thousands in Alberta while gaining valuable experience in designing accessible AI technology solutions with real-world applications.
What You'll Do
- User Research: Conduct in-depth research with the sight-loss community to understand their specific needs, challenges, and preferences. We'll facilitate access to communities and organizations that support individuals with sight loss.
- UX Design: Design a user interface that prioritizes accessibility, adhering to WCAG AAA compliance standards, and accommodates users with varying degrees of visual impairment.
- Product Strategy: Develop a product roadmap that includes feature prioritization, user personas, and success metrics.
- Go-to-Market Plan: Create a comprehensive strategy to introduce the solution to the market, including positioning, messaging, and outreach initiatives.
- Prototype Development: Create designs and prototypes using tools like Figma (or Adobe equivalents) for UX/UI designs.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation of research findings, design decisions, and strategic recommendations.

Why This Project Matters
This project has the potential to significantly improve how individuals with sight loss interact with technology and the world around them. By creating an interface designed specifically for their needs, rather than adapting interfaces designed for sighted users, we can provide a more intuitive, dignified, and empowering experience. Your work on this project could help transform how an entire community accesses and benefits from AI technology.
